The weapons that God has given to believers don’t change. The battle may take on different looks, but the enemy is the same, and our weapons of warfare are the same. John is preparing his people for war. In the Christian life we face three primary enemies: the world, our sin, and the devil. John dealt with our sin in the first part of this letter. But we are at a transition point. He is about to confront the world in 2:15-17 and the devil in 2:18-25. But to get us ready for the battle, John goes back to remind us of some truth about our position. In doing so, he reminds us of three weapons we will need to be victorious warriors.
