The Best Reason to Follow Jesus

Are you following Jesus for Jesus’ sake, or are you following Him for what He provides you?

Initially, I would say that most of us came to Jesus because of what He offers us: eternal life, the forgiveness of sins, hope, peace, security, and more.

Paul helps us to understand that there’s an even better reason for following Jesus, and that’s knowing Him experientially.

“That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:10).

Knowing Jesus should be our highest aspiration.

While it’s true that walking with Jesus is the best life we could live, it’s not an easy life, and the path He asks us to take is often not the path we would not have otherwise chosen.

If we’re following Jesus for the blessings He provides, we’ll likely become disillusioned and give up when the going gets tough.

If instead, you set your focus on knowing Jesus and becoming like Him, He becomes your greatest reward, and the blessings that come with walking with Him are just icing on the cake.
